Towns Fund Project D
East Staffordshire Borough Council is calling for Burton residents to get involved in its Sounding Board for the Towns Fund Project D – High Street Linkages in order to co-design the approach to public consultation and call for ideas.
Information about the Sounding Board can be found on the Council’s website here
Applications close on Monday 12th July, 5:30pm.
Back in November 2020 Burton Town Board secured 22.8 million from Central Government to progress several projects to regenerate Burton Town Centre.
The Board were criticised for the limited consultation over the Covid 19 period and therefore I’m pleased to confirm that important opportunities for residents to have their say are coming up for Project D and E:
1. ESBC are inviting local residents to become members of the Project D Sounding Board. Project D’s overall aim is to deliver the idea that Burton should face the Washlands/River Trent meaning the possibility of new wider linkages to the High St and development of the waterfront. The Sounding Board will shape engagement with residents about the proposals for Project D which should mean that there will be more opportunities for the wider Burton public to have their say. The deadline for applications to become a member of the Sounding Board is Monday 12th July.
2. The formal consultation stage for the Library move into the Market Hall (Project E) will begin on 19th July and will last for 8 weeks. There will be physical stands in the library, on weekends in Coopers Square and through Staffordshire County Council’s digital channels (website/social media etc). The consultation will be about the principle of the move and the design and as much information as possible will be provided. Please, please take part, as statistics will be taken from the consultation response to suggest support for the proposal or not as the case may be and ultimately, those making the final decisions to proceed or to change tack will need bear the consultation response in mind.
