Working parties: Nature Walk
I was born in Kenya and our family came to the UK in late 1960’s . My early education was in Hertfordshire before proceeding onto Higher Education in Essex, Kent and London.
We have lived in Burton-On-Trent for almost thirty years. Both of our children attended local schools before proceeding to University. As a family we have been involved in a range of charitable activities, particularly in relation to Burton Hockey Club.
In my working life, I initially started as a Lloyds broker before training to become a teacher of economics, sociology and politics. I have taught in Sussex, Surrey, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. In my last post, I was a Principal of a large and successful Sixth Form College in Hull for seven years.
I believe that one of the most successful ways to create community is to foster a spirit of celebration and joint achievements. I am one of the founding committee member of The Friends of Scalpcliffe Woods and regularly volunteer for woodland management.
I am a Trustee of The Venn Foundation, a charity based in Yorkshire that provides
scholarships for disadvantaged students to attend university. I regularly volunteer to manage woodlands for the Heartwood Trust, a social enterprise based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch . I am a keen cyclist, enjoy gardening, am interested in environmental issues, current affairs and supporting my football team, for whom I am a season ticket holder.
