Working Parties: Board Walk
I was born in London moving to Burton upon Trent in 1986 and have lived in Brizlincote since 1987.
My working life has been almost entirely in the public sector with The MOD, Metropolitan and Staffordshire Police before ESBC. I am a volunteer driver for the NHS.
I have always had an interest in working with communities be it as a Police Officer or Local Government Officer as well as being involved with mental health and domestic abuse charities.
The parish council is blessed with a variety of green spaces which provide benefits to residents and people in the surrounding areas. As a Parish Councillor I intend to contribute towards sustaining and possibly improving them.
Working Parties: Finance and Governance, Notice Boards, Board walk, Open spaces
About me: Born in Manchester, I moved to Burton in 1975 and have lived in Stapenhill ever since. Ex- British Coal at Bretby, where I was employed in the latter part of my career there as Product Reliability Engineer. More recently a self employed Industrial Noise Control Engineer.
Now fully retired from paid work, I am Vice-Chair of Governors at Abbot Beyne High School and Midlands Area rep for The British Association of Colliery Management and a member of the National Executive Committee.
Married with three children.
Working parties: Nature Walk
I was born in Kenya and our family came to the UK in late 1960’s . My early education was in Hertfordshire before proceeding onto Higher Education in Essex, Kent and London.
We have lived in Burton-On-Trent for almost thirty years. Both of our children attended local schools before proceeding to University. As a family we have been involved in a range of charitable activities, particularly in relation to Burton Hockey Club.
In my working life, I initially started as a Lloyds broker before training to become a teacher of economics, sociology and politics. I have taught in Sussex, Surrey, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. In my last post, I was a Principal of a large and successful Sixth Form College in Hull for seven years.
I believe that one of the most successful ways to create community is to foster a spirit of celebration and joint achievements. I am one of the founding committee member of The Friends of Scalpcliffe Woods and regularly volunteer for woodland management.
I am a Trustee of The Venn Foundation, a charity based in Yorkshire that provides
scholarships for disadvantaged students to attend university. I regularly volunteer to manage woodlands for the Heartwood Trust, a social enterprise based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch . I am a keen cyclist, enjoy gardening, am interested in environmental issues, current affairs and supporting my football team, for whom I am a season ticket holder.

About me: I have lived in the locality for over 40 years. We have a busy life enjoying time with our grandchildren, pets and friends. I have worked in industrial sales, sales management and business development for the majority of my working life and I am recently retired. My aim, where possible, is to assist in the preservation of the natural beauty and wildlife locally and to encourage pride in our area. I am also interested in helping to expand any facilities which may be of interest to both existing and future residents within the Parish.
Working parties: Horticultural, Nature Walk
I was born in Winshill so a local lad and a proud Staffordonian having served in 3 Staffords TA.
I am employed as a HGV driver for a local plant and tool hire firm in Drakelow. I have lived in Brizlincote for over 5 years with my wife and white Westie.
My hobbies are: Horticulture, wildlife, bird watching, photography, walking and making and mending.
I wanted to put these to good use so the next logical step was to become a parish councillor and try and do some good in the parish.
Working Parties: Planning, Events, Nature Walk, Open spaces
About me: Born in Burton Upon Trent, I moved to Brizlincote 20 years ago. I have always enjoyed getting involved in my surroundings and when an opportunity came to join the Parish Council I decided to take it. I am retired, I joined Burton U3A and my hobbies include walking, photography and crafts. I am an active member of the Brizlincote WI and hope to get them involved in as many projects as I can.
Working Parties: Events
About me: Originally from Burton, I travelled around whilst young and finally settled in Stapenhill in 2007 after doing my Textiles degree.
My two children were born and raised here and I like to get involved with things in our local community that have a direct affect on our children.
I am a volunteer for three local charities (school PTA, Scouts and SSAFA).
I hope that by joining the Parish Council I will help provide a voice for local families on the things that are important to them.
Working Parties: Horticultural, Traffic Calming Measures
About me: I have lived in Brizlincote for thirty years, although there are some intervals where I have lived and worked overseas, also in different parts of the UK due to working for several multi-nationals. At present I run my own business in the hospitality industry and strategic management consultancy. As a member of the Parish Council I am interested in pursuing your concerns.

How to become a councillor
A parish council is the tier of local authority closest to its community as it elects representatives from within that community. Parish councils are democracy on your doorstep. Anyone can stand as a candidate provided they meet the qualification requirements or you can find out more by contacting the local borough electoral services department.
You should be:
- Aged over 18.
- A British, Commonwealth citizen, or Euro-national citizen (who is a registered elector)
- Resident for 12 months prior to the day of election – either in the parish or within 3 miles of the boundary.
- Occupied land or premises for 12 months as owner or tenant – either in the parish or within 3 miles of the boundary
- Had a principal place of work – either in the parish or within 3 miles of the boundary.
You cannot become a councillor if:
- You hold a paid office with the council.
- If you are subject to a bankruptcy restrictions order or an interim order creates disqualification which dates from the judgement or execution and generally ends one year after the relevant order is made.
- If you have within five years before the election or since election been convicted in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man of any offence and been sentenced to not less than three months imprisonment (whether suspended or not) without the option of a fine.
- Imprisonment probably includes any type of custodial sentence.
- This disqualification begins when the ordinary period for making an appeal is finally dismissed or abandoned or fails for want of prosecution.
You can get further information by contacting the Parish Clerk.
